1) Difference between CEX and DEX, include pros and cons for both?
2) Can I go online with both and hack?
3) Will my console get banned?

CEX - This is a retail machine
DEX - This is a Debug machine.
Pro's and cons vary depending on your reason for wanting to Jailbreak. For modding, DEX would be the best route.

As it was mentioned above it depends on what your going to do.

CEX is retail and does not require any changes to be made to play games. This can be used for modding but it is advised to go to DEX for better compatibility.

DEX is a debug/test unit and can play retails games almost straight away. Although this is the better option for modding if you just want to play games then sometimes you may get problems which means you have to mess with the debug settings to get games to boot up. (Destiny for an example)

Yes you can go online with both although as soon as you starting going online and modding you will end up being flagged and more than likely banned if you don't use things PSNinja and things of this nature. Now by using these it does not mean your completely safe and cannot be banned it just lowers the chances ever so slightly.

No matter what you do in the end your account will probably be banned quicker than the console itself so it is advised to not use any main account on CFW.

To be honest you should look there anyways as there is useful information in regards to all things PS3 related.

Since you are new to this Modding Community, I suggest you to start on CEX then as soon as you are able to know alot of info you can get to dex. However If like modding there is A CCAPI which is rtming over wifi better than ethernet connections since you need a laptop all the time beside your ps3 (ccapi is not good for modmenu's).
