Just a precaution. Can you get to the recovery menu? I've had this happen to me before. Try turning your PS3 off. Then hold down the power button till you hear some beeps and it turns back off. Hold it again until you hear two beeps, and it should be at the recovery menu. From there, you can try restoring file system, or rebuilding database. These are a good precautionary measure, as they will not do any damage to the PS3 besides deleting messages. You could also try checking the wires. Maybe the video cable is loose.
