It depends what brick you have... brick, semi-brick, YLOD or RLOD.

Depands is a wood brick or mud brick, cement brick, iron brick.

its not RLOD or YLOD... it turns on..... I get the ps3ita loading screen thing..... but then that's it. no XBM comes up. idk if that means I bricked it or not but that's whats I get

Re-install firmware through recovery menu

If that doesn't work. Change HDD.

it doesn't let me go into recvory mode. when I hold down the power button to it just turns off. how do I change the HDD?

After the ps3 turns off hold the power button again till you here it double beep. That's how you get into recovery mode, hold power button for full on off cycle, release n press n hold power again till it double beeps.

yeah I know how to get it into recovery mode. ive done it before but it doesn't let me right now...
