Yes, that would work and you wont lose the cfw, it was format and ask you to install 2.70 or later

the data on the hard disk is useless to another ps3, you would be effectively installing a blank hard disk because it will expect to format it.

You can upgreade the HDD when ever you like on a CFW so long as you do not install ANY OFW when you place the new HDD in the PS3 then you will be ok.

You could always go down the route of looking for an external HDD for storing your games and what not then you would only need about 100gb for an internal hard drive (just for installing the game data/PSN games/Saves).

Whenever you insert a new HDD into a CFW it will as you to install/reinstall the firmware your on so make sure to download the 3.55 OFW pup and DO NOT HAVE A DISC INSIDE OF THE BLU RAY DRIVE....

If you have a new game in the Blu Ray drive it will take the update from that possibly updating your console to OFW thus losing your jailbreak so make sure to remember to always remove games.

nothing happens, the ps3 asks you to format the new harddrive and then reinstall the current CFW
