I have the ethernet running from my ps3 to pc and my wifi set on shared. When i internet test on my ps3 it obtains the ip but internet connection fails. You don't need to be connected from PC to PS3 via Ethernet. All you need is for the PS3 to be plugged into the router/modem via Ethernet.
