You could just use webMAN, it's free and pretty good.

There is also another package called Control Fan Utility.

Make sure your ps3 is free, what I mean by that is that you've got nothing covering it up from behind. That way the air in your room will cycle around and prevent your ps3 from getting hotter.

It really depends man, your ps3 can last a very long time. The recommendations is not to play the ps3 for over 4 hours a day. If the ps3 is an older model it will have a shorter life span. But there is always a fix, i would recommend to apply new thermal paste every few months or something to keep the ps3 cool.
