Well, there's:

CFW:
CFW stands for custom firmware. This is basically "a jailbreak".

OFW:
OFW stands for official firmware. Official firmware is put out by Sony themselves and this is what you get if you purchase a stock PS3.

MFW:
MFW stands for modified firmware. As the name implies, this can be a modified version of an OFW or an CFW .
Pay attention when installing MFW! MFW can also be a modified OFW!
MFW is best to be avoided. It's most of the time unstable and it's best to stick to the main devs.
