Post: PS3 won't turn on and I get weird lines through my screen.

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); So I was playing BO2 (BLES01717) using Jericho's sprx engine. (By no means am I saying that this caused this I have been using the tool for about a week I am just including everything that lead up to the events that ensue.) But was at a loading screen for a game to start and the screen kind of flickered and the game froze, which is as we all know more common than usual. Anyways so I do what I have always done is push the power button and the green light flashes until the console finally just shut down. After it shuts down I turned it back on and it was starting to load fine until it got to the XMB and it froze agian only this time it had a crap ton of funky lines going through it even worse that the ones in the pictures bellow. So I shut it down again only this time I had to unplug it because it would not turn off by pressing the power button. When I plugged it back in and would try to turn it on the console would start but nothing show up on the screen but lights were on and everything but when trying to shut it down again I had to unplug it. I then tried different cables (which by the way are all Monster HDMI cables) and was getting the same results. So I took the hard drive out and booted it up that way. It took like 45 seconds to a minute but I would then be shown this screen which is expected as I had no hard drive plugged in but after maybe 10 seconds of seeing the screen as in the pictures below it would then get those lines through it and them completely freeze. I don't know what has cause this to happen and would be very humble and thankful and would appreciate anyone that could help me out with explaining to me as to what could be wrong and if it could be fixed. I am on 4.73.3 Rebug DRex firmware with a 320GB hard drive.

Do a barrel roll!
To me that doesn't sound like a software issue mate, is it a CECH-2503/2504 by any chance? usually get them issues on them skus because of the RSX(Graphics) chip..

I'm not too sure... however, I believe your Hard Drive Disk (HDD) may be corrupted or your RSX chip his died... I do think it's your HHD though.

Hard drive works fine. I am able to get it working every now and then but then after a little while it starts getting lines through it again and freezes and I have to sit the and restart the ps3 without the hard drive a few time until it boots up with out showing the line then I put the hard drive back in and it works again for a period of time.

And it is a CECH-2501A. also when I move it it does it also. It will make the lines then freeze

Its most likely a dead RSX chip.

could it also be a overheating issue?

It could be but know the PS3 wont even turn on. I sent pictures to this guy at PS3Specialists and he agrees that it is this RSX Graphics chip that needs to be re soldered to the motherboard. The cause can be linked to ps3 overheat and just normal wear and tear from the heat. It causes the soldering in the chip to become brittle and crack causing a poor connection with the motherboard. Hence the need for it to be reballed and set back on the motherboard. Seems pretty easy actually as I repair cell phones and do a lot of soldering I just dont have the proper tools to do it myself so i will just send it to this PS3Specialist guy for him to do and he seems pretty legit.
