no it should be a problem when u put the hdd in the system it ask u reformat and u will lose everything

To change your HDD on a CFW follow this video... it'll help you.

All you have to do is have the same CFW you were on ready and setup on the USB and plugged into your PS3 when you boot it with the new HDD.

OK the answer to your problem is
First if you want your save data backed up back it up, You will also need to purchase a 2.5 hard drive or you could buy an ssd. when upgrading it will ask you to insert a usb with X.XX firmware. get a usb with the X.XX cfw and install it
