If you're currently on a firmware lower than 3.41, you can "update" to firmware 3.41. You can't downgrade.

You can UPDATE to 3.41 but if your on 3.50 your not updating to 3.41, you'd be downgrading to 3.41...which is impossible without hardware skills

So to update to 3.41, you have to be on a firmware lower than 3.41 and then you can UPDATE to 3.41 by using just a USB as the PS3 won't know the latest firmware out by Sony.

you also have to have the internet disabled, or the ethernet cable out

ayy i got a 3.40 ps3 and i downloaded the file and everything but when i put the usb on my ps3 and go to update via storage and nothing pops up why :?? pleasee reply !

The folders on your USB have to go :

PS3/UPDATE/then the update

all in caps btw
