I was wondering if you could buy a 3.41 HDD and put it onto your own Ps3 system to host lobbies etc. etc.

no.. it's not gonna work..
when formatted, a hard drive (at least in ps3) is "assigned" to one ps3.. if you put it in another ps3, it'll ask you to format it..

so if anyone is trying to sell you a ps3 hdd with hacked patch on it, DO NOT BUY IT !!

The ps3 will not accept the Hard drive. I have 3 systems and have tried it. If it was this simple everyone would have been on 3.41 by now. Sorry wish it were true.

Technically...this will work. The update data is stored on console some other place than the hdd. You CAN run a hard drive from a ps3 running on 3.41 on a console that is running on 3.50. It will just delete all of your data. You can always restore from a back-up though
