Yes it can be done with a ps3 on any firmware aspic as you can get it into factory service mode at the moment. For 3.55 you will need a downgrader. I would just wait till more and better cfw is released like one that has PSN access

Just wait, i see no reason why to teach people how to use these tools which are mostly being used to create stuff for people that can make it very easy. (simple way like just load on USB and update)
