The "lv2diag.self" is one of the official Sony Service files, used by PSDowngrade in order to downgrade your PS3.. Pretty much if you mod that file and enable the .PKG feature and then patch it on the Flash then the Flash Chip will ignore the signature and install the .PKGs.
Just like this morning at 5am,he ran Homebrew off the 3.55 XMB using the CFW.
