Post: (need help) can i use a external hdd for back ups

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); i am having trouble deciding what i should buy a 1tb external or internal hdd
i am wanting to back up all my games i own but i know you have to copy the game files with awesome file manager and stuff like that

will this even work to copy my games to the external bc i know you have to go into dev_hdd nd stuff will the external even allow that

i would rather use external just incase if i need to format my internal flash cfw or what ever can someone give me some advice on what i should do ??? will + rep for help thanks very much to allEek

well get a usb drive first and test a small game. If it works, than an external drive that is larger should work. You may have trouble formatting a 1TB to fat 32 though

thanks i didnt even try to do that i am going to do it right now hope it works lol and there are a bunch of formaters to format it to fat32 im sure i can find one to work:y:

From what I know, any external HDD should work as long as its file system type is FAT32 not NTFS. For some reason FAT32 is the only format Sony reads

ok i knew almost any would work but i wasnt for sure if i could actully copy the game to the usb drive instead of the internal like if i was to use ftp to copy the game to there i didnt know if there would be a spot for it on the external or not like dev_hdd/usrdata/ or what ever where it goes

Oh ok, I get your concern, it would suck buying it and not end up wroking for you. I wouldnt mind testing this out for you considering I have a 500GB external but sadly its NTFS and can only be formatted to exFAT.

thats actully what im on is the geohot one and i am getting a game backed up right now so i can see if it works i will report back if so unless someone else has already found the answer

I bought a 1tb hdd and it came formatted with FAT32 my ps3 didnt pick it up at all and not just that FAT32 Wont save files over 4.2gb so your gonna be kinda stuck with an external IMHO
