(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Ok I have 2 hard drives. Both have 3.55 on them one with cfw the other not. Does the cfw and ofw install to the ps3 or to the hard drive? And if so is it safe to update the 3.55 non cfw hard drive to 3.56 without worry of not being able to use the 3.55cfw drive again? I just wanna make sure I can still use my 3.55 cfw drive with my backup games and everything and my 3.56 ofw drive separately without fear of not being able to use my cfw drive again.

ps im on a slim.

Thanks and plus +rep to everyone who helps.

Much appreciation obviously for link, pics, and testers.

That's a good idea, but I think that it won't work, as I read many times that the FW is saved on the NAND of the PS3, so it isn't on the HDD.

I'm not sure. Sorry, if I'm talking bs.

see I wasn't aware either I do know that it used to be that way however I swap my hdd's all the time since they are both still on 3.55. Just that one is cfw and one is legit... however I thought they changed that since the updates started getting larger. I didnt know for sure. Now I also read that on 3.56 you can't swap hdd's anymore so whatever you have on 3.55 is what you have on 3.56. I also know that since im on kmeaw cfw on my cfw 3.55 drive that the ps3/app/home folder and the pkg install folder DO NOT show on my hdd with ofw 3.55 in. Which lead me to think that it didn't install on the nand chip... So I was just curious if anyone else had tried.

hmm... so I take it nobody in the community has tried this? I will when I get another ps3 but it will probably be a few weeks before that happens. But again just thought I would ask is someone else has tried this?

Yeah thats the thread I was mentioning... I wonder though if it just refers to the fact that you can't format a new drive for the ps3 or if it means you can't swap an hdd at all? Cause if it simply takes away formatting well... both drives are formatted already... so then it wouldn't affect it but if the update recognizes the serial on the hdd which I kinda doubt... then it would be impossible even to swap hdd's at all... Im considering calling Sony to ask if there is a trouble shoot for upgrading hdds on the ps3 on 3.56 ill post the results in the ps3 hacks and exploits main forum when I do call maybe tomorrow maybe a bit later depends on how long the wait is.

Just a tip: look at older posts before you post. Everyone was talking about this at least a month ago.

No I think it "pairs" an HDD with a ps3 so if you switch before updating you are fine. Correct if I'm wrong

They couldn't have been talking about it a month ago 3.56 only came out this week... thats the main reason I posted I was wondering if there was a work around to use another hdd with 3.56 and one with 3.55 as I have seen threads with post about people successfully swapping drives on 3.56 but no one posted proof or a tutorial so i figure ill call sony and ask about swapping drives on 3.56 and see what response i get. Figured it would be good for everyone to know. Could you if you have a 3.56 please check the xmb or recovery menu to see if the option to format is even still there? I just wanna make sure I got my facts straight before I call and I don't wanna update and be jipped so I can check myself unforunately and lol thanks for the schooling though normally it would be me telling people to read post before posting when I made the thread though the only thing that came up was stuff about mw2 :p.
