I just figured how to unlock the extra spu which sony has disabled at factory.
Upon startup, the syscon firmware will read the eeprom value located at 0x48C30 and will set the cell config ring accordingly.
That value is set to 0×06 on all consumer consoles which means 7 SPEs are actually enabled. Incrementing it should unlock the extra SPE.
I haven’t tested it yet though (I am not too keen on bricking) Also should you set some fancy value such as 0×00 or 0xFF you’d likely brick.
@mohnnad15 That means you can possibly unlock an extra SPE for your Linux fanciness (depends if your extra SPE is dead or not)

btw by EEPROM I obviously mean Syscon’s EEPROM. You can read/write to that offset through the Update Manager.

ok I looked more into the 3.56 whitelist/blacklist, They whitelisted all the games self and blacklisted geohot's npdrm keypair.

This means that a regular bluray/updater self will have to be whitelisted or using the new key to run.

while npdrm selfs can actually be encrypted with another keypair for them to work again from 3.56+

So I was wrong, they never actually blacklisted npdrm selfs, they just blacklisted the keypair used by geohot (and added some other checks)

Of course no updater, and not even sony's official sdk tool's selfs were added to the whitelist. Only games.

Some official devs must be pissed now that they can't run cellftp on 3.56 xD

@TornZero I don't think they can really fix that. However it's more or less fixed cause you can't install game packages from stock 3.56+
