Just update normally your MW2 patch in in gamedata utility so that won't change unless you delete it or they put out a new patch (doubtful) but if this happens you aRe SOL cuz update kills homebrew which kills FTP, won't brick cuz it official and the ban is up toy ou get cought cheating which is obviously what you wanna do and they ban you.. either way hope this helped. S/N you should NEVER update from a cfw to a ofw go back to 3.55 ofw first

updating from cfw 3.55 to ofw 3.56 will brick your ps3.

Please don't post what you don't know. It doesn't brick your Playstation 3. It just takes away the option to update via storage media. If you didn't know, now you do.

You won't get banned or anything. Just go back to the official firmware by following the same steps you did to use the custom firmware. Then you are good to go! =) You will not lose your Modern Warfare 2 patch unless you update it when Infinity Ward (or Yard. I'm sorry i don't know.). If you do, you will lose it.

I have read people bricking their ps3 from updating from cfw 3.55 to ofw 3.56.

To be safe just install ofw 3.55 first than go and update.

I think you misunderstood something. Because if you update to 3.56 directly from 3.55 custom firmware, as i said before, you only lose the ability to update via storage media. The detail i think you missed was, the person was trying to downgrade his/her Playstation 3. That's what caused their Playstation to brick.
