If I copy all my game data to a flashdrive and put it on my computer than delete homebrew, backups and then format my PS3 will I be able to safely update and not get banned? And then can I re-copy the gamedata to my PS3?

When you are done playing your backups get the ps3 in recovery mode and format the harddrive. Plug in the internet cable cause it will ask for connection after formatting. Takes about 1 minute to complete. Then go into recovery mode again, and update to 3.56. Should be good to go.
