Now that I have 3.56, how do I edit it? I have a Hex Editor, all I need to know is how to add the Install Package Files icon, get Private Keys, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated. The more people we got to help in fighting Sony, the better.

Ok so wait, you want to create a CFW of 3.56, with a hex editor, while no-one has done it, including top scene members... Ehw nah, not gonna work. If anyone knew, there would already be a CFW of 3.56.

Well give up on 3.56. Your not gonna get through it. Im just saying by the first post, you dont look to me like somebody with enough knowledge to achieve this... Atleast not on 3.56 becuz of rootkit etc. And please quote people if you want a reply from them. Just a tip.

As for modding 3.55 i think you can use PS3MFW Builder which needs no explenation...

Yea I was using 3.56 as an example I don't know anything about CFW's yet so I knew that was NEVER gonna happen lol. Thanks, but like I said in my original post, I don't want to use PS3MFW. I have already used it once, but it doesn't explain anything. I want to know what I am doing and do it myself not let a program do it for me. If I keep using it, I will NEVER be able to make CFWs for new upates that are released by Sony because I will still know as much as I do now. If anything, it would be nice for someone to post a tut or explaination of how to take 3.55 OFW (which I have) and turn it into a CFW without PS3MFW, the same way you would if a new OFW came out from Sony. Obviously, being new to this, I would appreciate some detailed explaination of how to do this. Thanks.

I know what you mean. But it takes trial and error, allot of failure and allot of standing up. You want to do everything manual. I can understand that. Kakaroto released a couple of tools to edit the .PUP file but ofc they are removed. Google for ps3utils; that is what Kakaroto released for it and im VERY sure its mirrored Good luck.

Cool! I decided to get on evilsperm's Ubuntu virual macine and take a look at fail0verflow's tools and I found how to upack a .pup file! So I unpacked it and it looks very complicated. :???: Lol, but either way I don't really care, i'm just happy I was able to unpack it thanks to fail0verflow! Now I just need to learn about all the parts of the update lol. Im still glad that i'm at least learning!

Now that I have the .PUP update extracted, I found an update_files.tar file and extracted it to see multiple .pkg files and others with a .tar.aa.2011_01_29_035533 extension. Every time I try to unpack a .pkg file using fail0verflow's "unpkg", I get an error reading:
