If you have a cfw that has the app_home folder then you can play games without a disc. Not all games are compatible with this method though. I recomend using multiman as your backup manager.

Here's a list of compatible games.

Kmeaw's cfw 3.55 has that folder. I would go to ofw first and then put kmeaw's over that.

Sony's ofw

Use this version of multiman

put it in the root of your usb drive and install it onto your ps3. Once it is there you need to create a folder called GAMES if it is not already there onto your ps3's dev_hdd or the root of your usb. You should see your games in multiman now, once you click on a game it will ask you if you would like to boot from xmb, select no and it will send you back to the xmb now to to the app_home folder and click on it, the game should run as if it were on a disc if it is compatible, if that doesn't work try selecting "yes" when it asks if you want to boot from xmb.

Yeah you can but it might take some time via FTP. Although you can speed things up using this method here.
