Completely useless really.
It's not like the PSP where it reads what version it thinks its in from a .txt file.
It will only change what it says when you go to install it, e.g. 3.55 or 3.55-jb or whatever.. but say if you put 3.6 in the file but it was a 3.55 firmware it won't treat it like it's 3.6 if that makes any sense...
So yeah no point unless you want it to say something different when installing.
