i just bought an 80gb fat CHECHL01, which is believe is the last of the fat ("safe") models aside from the uncharted bundled 160 gb ps3, so i can either install cfw 3.41 or 3.55...

to start, with 3.61 out and new games requiring 3.60+ fw AND with rebug's release, please assist me in jailbreaking in the "best" way.

should i:
A) upgrade to ofw 3.41 and install rebug 3.41.2
b) upgrade to ofw 3.55 and install rebug 3.55.1
c) upgrade to ofw 3.41 and install CFW X (recommendations?)
d) upgrade to ofw 3.55 and install CFW X (recommendations?)

ive read that rebug is the best cfw out, and that 3.41.2 and 3.55.1 are virtually the same (no lv2(?) loading, no dongle, same debug avaialbity options), but are there better CFW's than rebug, because ive seen hermes is the most popular with 3.41 and kmeaw is most popular with 3.55, at least until rebug appeared.

now im not a dev obviously, i guess im what i think is called an end user. im really just using the ps3 to play backups, save games, movies, etc.... im not a hacker and i dont plan on messing with stuff like keys, servers, or anything else that might brick a system or screw up the psn.

so with all that in mind, what would you do with your 80gb CHECHL01 as far as jailbreaking at the current moment? please keep in mind, i just want it to play movies and games/backups, including newer games like brink, homefront, crysis 2, etc....(and no online because of 3.61 isnt an issue, i dont mind playin offline)

Upgrade to 3.55 original firmware, and then update to rebug cfw from rebug.me.
Trust me, 3.41 has no advantages over 3.55 and rebug is the best out. :y:.

see the thing is, ive read so many threads where people still use 3.41 and wont upgrade to 3.55. something about open code or something like that? im not sure of the technical reason, maybe its for developmental/dev purposes, and they are devs which si why they want to stick to 3.41.

otherwise, are there really no advantages in 3.41?

and is rebug really the best, and is there no difference between 3.41.2 and 3.55.1 then ?

ok so i need to (find and) download OFW 3.55....

now where can i find that as well as kmeaw? i know rebug.me has their CFW up. i think i should probably look at both, but from what ive read and what u said, kmeaw is more backup friendly/compatible...

i think most poeple stick to 3.41 and say its best because they paid to get that cfw. since the only way to mod ur console up until (geohots exploit) was through an expensive dongle. now those dongles are super cheap because theres no real reason to buy it. they often state taht the homebrews better there but they neverrr give examples and the majority of homebrew has since been signed to 3.55. there might be some dev plus's but as an end user im almost positive theres no advantage to 3.41

and about rebug the main draw of that is limited online play through the sp-int server. so if your not concerned with taht i'd just go with kmeaw cuz its been used for teh longest with the least amount of reported problems.

well ill be updating to 3.55 , so if neone has the link for OFW 3.55 please let me know and if you know also where to DL a clean copy of keamw 3.55 as well.

update to 3.55 and go for rebug is it the best cfw but there is no point cause you cant get online now

Good post by consteez, however I do recommend Rebug over KMEAW. Any issues people have w/ Rebug are (almost) always when they use the Rebug Selector and don't know what they're doing, then they come back complaining saying that the CFW is broken /facepalm

If you intend on developing your own stuff at any stage, 3.41.2 is much better to use than 3.55 as you are have more free reign over the console.
There are more homebrew apps for 3.41.2 than 3.55

can someone tell me about this PS3MFW privacy patch and/or stealth rebug 3.55.1? like where can i download them and do they really conceal your identity and hide your console information?


or is there a homebrew app that stealths you/ hides your console id or somethin like fcKPSN?
