OK now to get on to what I was saying, I thought of this after seeing the video below. You only need to see the first 4 minuets or so to see what i'm talking about.

I have no way of telling if this works because my PS3 isn't working right now. YLOD :/

Basically to do this you need to

  • Hook your PS3 drive up to your computer
  • Format the drive to FAT32
  • Plug hard drive back up to PS3
  • You will get an error, it will ask to install/repair firmware
  • Plug thumb drive up to PS3 with lower firmware
  • Install

Or will it not work because it says "3.55 or later" I Don't know I am just sharing with everyone Happy

The ps3 copies the firmware off the USB onto the ps3, so you couldn't change it half way through. So nope.

# Plug drive back up to PS3
# You will get an error, it will ask to install/repair firmware
This doesn't happen , so I was trying to think of something else that you were thinking of...

Sorry I didn't make that clear, I was talking about plugging the hard drive back up to the PS3 after you format it. If you do this it will corrupt the firmware. Then you update via USB with a lower firmware.

No, it's basically like pulling the plug when you download a new firmware. More likely to get a brick, than a downgrade. The chance of downgrading is very low.

Free rep is free?

will not work. Firmware is flashed to your Ps3, it is not stored on the hard drive. All you will be doing is wiping your hard drive, so you'll lose all your save data, game data and any media you might have on there. Ps3 will then reformat the hard drive so it can recognise it again.
