They usually come on 3.21 firmware. If for some odd reason it comes on something higher than 3.55, return it and try a different store.

you will have to download the 3.55 official firmware and put it on a USB stick, then once you do that you update VIA USB and then you're on 3.55. Go from there to CFW.

yep and i told him how he will know and he asked how he would get it to 3.41. I think he is un-aware of the 3.55 custom firmware. :p

Yes, if you get a PS3 under 3.55, you can jailbreak it for free. If it's over 3.55, your screwed - return it and buy a new one from a different store.
