depends how long its been in the store, best bet is to buy a used one from somewhere

If you buy from store make sure its not a cech-300a1 that comes with firmware 3.65 this number is on side bottom of box
if you want to jail break try to find a cech-2501a which comes with firmware 3.41
or buy the cech-2501b which comes with the move bundle

The later the systems were shipped by Sony, the higher the firmware they're on. Thus why you'll almost never find a PS3 under stock firmware 3.40 these days, whereas a year ago that firmware number'd be considerably lower.

I recommend eBay for ensuring you get a low firmware system
