The PlayStation 3 scene should have expected this. Various reports suggest that anyone using custom firmware and using PSN/SEN will be banned. Even those using fckPSN or other means of bypassing access to PSN/SEN can be included in the ban wave. I for one have never used online access on my custom firmware PS3, so it would be interesting to see how far the ban hammer reaches. If you are one of the unlucky ones you will be met with a error code 8002A231. Please inform fellow CFW users should you encounter this.

My solution to this is probably gonna be this.
You must login or register to view this content. What it does is, it changes your Mac Address, which I believe is what Sony will be banning. Unless they are banning by ps3 console id, then were just screwed.

Go ahead and spoof your MAC address.. won't do you any good since Sony bans the console ID. You can spoof that, but you'll need a legit ID from a working PS3. Just using all zero's won't work anymore..

I haven't signed in on my CFW since Saturday morning. I signed in with my OFW today with no problems. Thank god I was following this while I was away at work. I think I'll lay low (No CFW PSN/SEN) until the scene cools off a bit, and see what Sony's next move is.

Who's to say? I can tell you this however.. 2 years ago when CFW first came around and we had PSN access for a short while I managed to get my main account banned along with my entire system. When I called Sony they told me it was for using unauthorized software, i.e. jailbreak. They wouldn't get much more specific than that. I never cheated in any online games, just did a simple exploit in PS Home where you could have custom game launch titles by altering the param.sfo.
So simple answer to are you ok is, maybe, maybe not. I would say if you're blatantly cheating then you're almost certain to get banned, possibly both account and console. And too, Sony can see if you're playing a backup online. Basically, the risk is definitely there.. I know firsthand unfortunately..

Yea same dude. But I don't think they're banning your account, I think its just their console.
