(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); As you can see this thread is about PS3 Temperature. I know there's loads of threads about this but I wanted to share my little PS3 mod which many of you have probably seen.

First of all I striped the PS3 down. Cleared all built up of dust then re-pasted the CPU and RSX with MX-4. Also Replaced those little heat pads.

Next I drew lines inside the bottom case so the drill holes are nicely spaced out then drilled a rows of holes on the bottom plastic case. 6 rows in total.

Next I took apart the PSU and drilled holes in the top casing of the PSU. (Not the main housing) just followed the 4-5 indents along the PSU.

Next I smoothed all the holes with a round file. Clearing all the left over plastic from drilling.

Reassembled the PS3 and then tested on main home screen then tested further in game.

Games tested on - Black Ops 3, Grand Theft Auto 5, Farming Simulator 15 😂 and Red Dead Redemption.

** Note ** I re-pasted the PS3 way before doing this case mod and using the same thermal paste and the temperature only dropped by 2c - 4c

Before Mod---------

Home Screen Temperature:
CPU: 65c - 70c
RSX: 65c - 70c

In Game Temperature:
CPU: 70c - 75c
RSX: 70c - 75c

After Mod---------- UPDATE 2

Home Screen Temperature:
CPU: 57c
RSX: 45c - 55c

In Game Temperature:
CPU: 58c
RSX: 50c - 55c

PS3 Slim 250GB (CECH2003A)
Rebug 4.81.1 DEX

Hope this helps if anyone wants to try it without destroying there case or even PS3.

This is awesome I'm always intrigued by methods of reducing internal temps.
I found aswel not only case modding reduces you're internal temperatures but the most simple steps can also help.
E.g. Heat conductors such as carpet/rugs any wool/clothing material you're console sits on will also increase temperatures, leaving your console is an open area and not in a confined space such as entertainments units, using the fan mod app also to increase you're internal fan speed is a big plus, case modifications and even leaving the entire top case off you're console whilst you game helps aswel, slims + super slims have pathetic air vent circulation,it's almost like Sony wanted our consoles to overheat a few years after we purchased them :(

Can dust get in the holes? Might want to do this myself but I don't want to mess up my ps3

Probably in the ones drilled on the top case but I've put that computer grill or mesh on top of the holes drilled direct above where the fan sits. Message me anytime for help or advice on here or on KIK - SAVAG3_PS3_MODDER

Your definitely right about carpets and rugs etc. Mine sits on a TV stand made out of wood and glass. I've noticed if I put it on the wood the temps used to increase by a few degrees but sitting on the glass the temps where stable. And it's seems like they designed it to do exactly that

** Update ** Today I drilled holes in the top casing. Above where the fan is and the back above the PSU. The temperatures have dropped even more!

They dropped by another 5c on both Chips.

Sorry if posted in wrong section.

this is pretty cool man, thanks for sharing, i planned on doing this so many time when i use to do downgrades alot but never got it

Is it true when you start installing LED's it consumes more power from the console forcing the temps to increase?
I remember seeing on YouTube a conversation about this, but never got around to actually practically testing the theory myself?

No way..I can't see this happening on a ps3 from adding leds..

The only thing that would increase is the resistance of the current from adding leds, which means an even higher amount of amps are going to pass through your leds with them installed and can blow the leds, if not eventually... You should use a resistor to keep this from happening. If I am not grammatically correct, I apologize. But you can look into this yourself to see what I mean.

They must of thought that when the LED'S are on that they give out so much heat 😂 Like DRO said, I couldn't see them adding any heat or making the temps rise. It's just a cool looking feature added to a shitty looking factory case lol
