However, I've been experiencing many issues with games ran from both internal and external methods (but way more problems running things from my external).

Probably the best example I can give you about what happens, is with GTA V: the game is a little slow to boot, loads into story mode okay... while playing a mission or cruising around, and the game's assets start loading improperly or not at all, and then it hard freezes. I believe it is the external drive, but I'm 100% sure as gtav has a large core files on the internal too....

Is it my internal or external?

Honestly. That is just GTA in general, but if it's happening both on internal and external I'd say it's your PS3 in general
