When I restore it gets to 46% give or take, and shoots up when restoring it blacks screens and doesn't restart just stays on a black screen, I try the safe mode option and nothing works and I'm completely baffled, mines boggled, I have check youtube google everything and can't find a solution help!!!

Try to see if you can boot into Safe mode and restore your PS3 from there.

" Safe mode freezing! ", @OP If you have a 2.5" hard drive enclosure you can put the PS3 HDD in there and format it via your computer.

Hmmm how do I find this out see am a newbie here when it comes to ps3 repair hahaha

you need to put your hard disk from the ps3 into your pc then format it as if you were to use it with windows.

then put it back into ps3 which will then format it again.

if this does not work then you have a hard disk failure.

either way you loose all data, saves, game update etc.

Yeah he's right hard drive is corrupted just put a new hard drive in and add the cfw it say or just go to 3.55 OFW and carry on from there
