(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Pachter: PS3 is more powerful than 90% of PCs

Michael Pachter's back with another of his two cents, this time regarding the power of the PS3. In the latest episode of Pach-Attack, he makes no qualms admitting that it's his platform of choice. And of course, he had to make his declaration sound controversial by saing that the PS3 is more powerful than 90% of all PCs.

Asked if he thinks the PC market is dead, he posits it's getting there. "The PC market if you think about it just as package products sold -- and let's include Steam in there, not subscription like World of Warcraft is something like six or seven percent of total games sales -- it's not a big number," he started.

"It's becoming a declining industry becaues you can get a near PC experience on a console right now, and I know flamers, you all have PCs that just crap all over the PS3 and are much, much more powerful. But the PS3 is a pretty powerful box and it's probably more powerful than 90 percent of PCs out there."

For the final slam: "The Xbox 360 is probably more powerful than 85% of PCs out there."In not so many words, Pachter doesn't think PCs can do the trick.

I can tell you my PS3 is not stronger than my PC. PC gaming is dead at some extend, but if you think about it, it's probably the best way to play games, allowing you to mod games, making your own levels, dedicated servers etc..

That's pretty impressive, but when you think about it, the 10% of PCs that it's not more powerful than are most likely all the gaming PCs that gamers use. I don't think PC gaming will see its end any time soon.

The versatility of PCs is the only advantage over console gaming. If you had the free control of most PCs on a console, you'd be able to mod as much as you'd like. Dedicated servers are not exclusive to PCs, though.

While I do agree with you on your point that a console is a more structured environment to play games, I must admit that the only reason PCs are more beneficial than a console is because consoles exist in a sandbox, whereas PCs are flexible.

Yeah, alienware is ftw, but way too expensive, I built something similar to a $2000 alienware for half the price.

i dont think alienware even its top models have more processing power...
but on PC you get games that actually use all that power but nothing on the ps3 yet completely takes advantage of what there is to offer with the ps3
