Red Dead Redemption Multiplayer Tips & Strategy

General Tips
*Weapons earned by XP are added to your Free Roam loadout and persist across play sessions.
*In Free Roam, weapons you’ve collected while you are alive are still in your inventory when you respawn.
*In Free Roam, voice chat is limited to those around you.
*Rack up massive experience by chaining together NPC kills.
*Starting a game type via a gateway will invite everyone in your Free Roam session to join you.
*Transporter gateways are conveniently located in most major towns.
*Lawmen are not as lenient as they are in Single player. There are no witnesses, just justice.
*Complete Weapon Challenges to earn golden weaponry.
*Press and hold D-pad Up to broadcast your voice to everyone in the session.
*Stay on trails while on horseback to travel faster.
*Each map has different weapon pickups. Be sure to use them to complete weapon challenges.
*Hang back and be methodical- just running out into the open will get you killed.
*Try attacking well defended enemies from different directions.
*The straight in approach is almost never the best tactic.
*Be sure to collect ammo multiple times from a single ammo box so you don’t run out.
*Dead Eye increases accuracy, as well as, distance.
*While fighting in enclosed spaces, be sure to use dynamite and fire bottle to help clear hallways and rooms before entering.
*For enemies on Gatling guns, aim above the head or below the turret at their legs to bring them down.
*Having trouble with enemies staying behind cover? You can draw their fire by running out in the open, giving your team the open shots they need.
*Flanking is your friend. If you notice a enemy is particularly interested in you, draw his interest so a teammate can line up a better shot.
*Enemies do throw dynamite, split up and keep your eyes on the sky. Since dynamite is thrown with a high arc, you may be able to spot the enemy.
*You can use explosive crates and barrels against the enemy. However, sometimes it’s a better idea to destroy them beforehand, just in case you’re standing by one.
*Having a hard time seeing enemies in dense brush? Look for muzzle flashes and puffs of smoke to help you take aim on your targets.
*Cavalry on horseback can be hard to bring down. It may be easier to take down the horse first, allowing you to target the rider more easily.
*Always fall back behind cover to recoup health.

Shootouts
*In FFA matches, sprinting and shooting give away your position.
*You can switch weapons as soon as the showdown starts.
*Headshots are the fastest way to kill an opponent but require careful aim.
*Use Dead Eye to pick off targets from a distance.
*Make use of the Dead Eye and Ammo pickups randomly placed around towns.
*In Gang Matches, focus fire on enemies with other teammates.
*Rolling or taking cover is the best way to survive.
*Going to cover hides your blip unless you are being flanked.
*Keep a low profile and let the enemies come to you.
*Reload often so you don’t get stuck with only a few bullets when you need more.
*Learn where weapons pickups are on the map and switch weapons often to fit the situation.
*Find out how to climb on rooftops and find cover once you are there- controlling the high ground is most important.

Gang Shootouts
*Pickup as many weapons crates as possible, this gives you a wide variety of weapons to dispose of the other gang.
*(Again) Running out into the open is a sure way to get killed.
*Your gang is always blue, the enemy is always red. Shoot at red.
*In Gang Matches, communication is key, always relay information about enemies to other team members.

[multipage=Hold Your Own]

Hold Your Own
*Setup a plan to attack the other bag, working with teammates is key to success.
*Kills are important but it’s the bags that count in the end.
*Steal the enemy bag early and often.
*A well defend bag is nearly impossible to take. Split into two teams, grabbers and defenders.

[multipage=Grab the Bag]
You must login or register to view this content.
Grab the Bag
*Work with other gang members to grab the bag first.
*A good defense is occasionally a good offense.
*(Again) Kills are important but it’s the bags that count in the end.
*Stick close to the bag carrier, they run slower.
*Go for captures more than kills to force the enemy out of hiding.

[multipage=Gold Rush]
You must login or register to view this content.
Goldrush
*Carrying two bags at once gets you more XP, but slows you down extremely.
*Once all the bags are captured, more will appear scattered around the map.
*Shoot fast and often. There is no penalty for dying except waiting to get back into the game.
*Hiding near a chest and letting someone else bring the bag most of the way can really pay off.

[multipage=Free Roam]
You must login or register to view this content.

Free Roam
*If you don’t have many weapons, pick a fight with the law and collect theirs. You’ll keep what you collected even after they kill you.
*If you get $1000 bounty you’ll become public enemy- other players will get a bonus for killing you- so watch out.
*Collecting weapons in gang hideouts are a good way to get bonuses.
*If your horse is slow and you are in a hurry, steal a wagon or a faster horse from traffic.
*Up to six players can ride in a single stagecoach- good times.
*You can give your horse to a friend and whistle for another one if theirs is slow.
*There is no dodging from the mount; you are faster but still a sitting duck.
*Use waypoints. Enter a transporter and select the waypoint to travel there.
*When you rank all the way to 50, you will get a special mount, and a new one each of the next five times you pass into legend and reset.
*The next time through, the other animals will unlock earlier to make room in the sequence for the next special one.
*In Free Roam, you can’t hide from the other players because your blip will always show.
*Free Roam can be a violent place, if you find yourself with a mean crowd use the find a new Free Roam option to switch to another one.
*Campsites are randomly placed around the wilderness. Make use of them to position yourself within close distance to it and good cover.
*In multiplayer, Dead Eye allows you to paint as many targets as you have bullets, then rapid fire.
*Your Dead Eye restores faster by getting kills and chaining them together. Use Dead Eye to keep the kill streak going afterwards.
*Dead Eye is best used on unsuspecting targets. Use the time to paint the target multiple times and take them down with one blast.
*In Gang Hideouts try to pace the enemy kills you get, it will increase your multiplier if you don’t let it expire before your next kill.
*After a gang hideout is complete you can vote to continue and play in the area- defend it against other players.

[multipage=Posses]
You must login or register to view this content.

Posses
*Use posses- they’ll keep you and your friends together across all game types.
*If you are posse leader, all members will see your waypoint and get a route from where they are.
*You can always hear people in your posse, even if they are far away.
*For Gang Matches, the system puts Posse members on the same team- unless there is no way to balance the team sizes.
