Valve, the US-based games developer, has announced that Portal 2, the long-awaited sequel to the blockbuster game Portal, will coming to the PlayStation 3.
The company also announced that its online gaming and content delivery platform Steamworks would also be made available for the PS3.
Speaking during Sony's press conference at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), Valve president Gabe Newell said that the Sony gaming platform is by far the most open console in the market.
Newell went on to express his excitement at bringing Steamworks to the PS3..
Calling the PS3 the "best console ever", Newell admitted he had been one of the greatest critics of the device when it first launched.
Explaining his conversion, Newell said: “Sony Computer Entertainment has proved that the PlayStation 3 is the most open platform of all the current generation consoles and has worked extremely hard to make the platform the most desirable for consumers and developers.”

Wait, what? Yep, we're just as confused as you are, but Gabe Newell himself announced Portal 2 heading to PS3 with some form of Steam Cloud support in-tow. Weirder? He claims the "best version" will arrive on Sony's console. We've got about a million questions to ask and we'll be putting them to Valve this week, so keep an eye out.
Oh, and also, there's a really fantastic trailer that we'll be grabbing for you as soon as possible. Sorry about the tease, but we felt you should know.
Update: Valve has sent along a press release confirming Steamworks integration in the PS3 version -- the only console version featuring that functionality, actually -- providing the game with "auto updates, community features, downloadable content, and more."
Yup, you heard it right, SteamWorks.
