When Sony announced the PlayStation Move, most gamers wrote it off as a cheap attempt to cash in on Nintendo's success with motion-based controllers. But is that the truth? Not if you believe Sony's president and CEO, Kazuo Hirai. In a recent interview with You must login or register to view this content., Hirai states that Move, Blu-ray, and 3D gaming are all technologies Sony has been working on for quite some time.
When asked if 3D was something that was considered before the launch of the PS3, Hirai had this to say:
"Well not just 3D, but the Move and Blu-ray too. Those are things we talked about internally before the launch. We knew that the PS3 needed to have a 10-year life cycle – much like the PlayStation and the PS3. Given how fast technology turns over now, we knew going in that we had to pack a lot of horsepower into the PS3."
Hirai also stressed two important requirements for integrating new technology into the PS3: the ability for future upgrades to work with every iteration of the console (something that You must login or register to view this content. with the PSP), and to make sure they "offer are a complete package from day one," adding that Sony doesn't want to have to release a "PlayStation Move Plus" in the future, a jab at Nintendo's Wii Motion-Plus.
We can definitely appreciate Sony's vision of a 10-year life cycle for the PS3, but we're not convinced the PlayStation Move has been in development as long as Hirai is claiming. If it's true, then let's hope it will result in some quality gaming experiences that go beyond primitive controller waggling.

I bet he is lying. I mean like if Move was intended why not release it on launch or before the Wii, or at least mentioned it? it just seems the same as the Wii motion sensing, maybe a little updated. Kinect on the other hand, seems like it will be the future of gaming. There are many possibilities that I can see kinect bringing that Move can't or won't. I don't think Move was planned for over 4 years and the suddenly release it.
I think your right, Personally I would of released it with Playstation but on another note. Releasing now would give them more sales. As they would be thinking of something new as of right now instead of just releasing something.
Thats why I hate this forum... so many idiots who don't know shit. But someone has to inform you.
@Infected- You telling me its hard to believe that sony has been working on motion controls since day one? You're right, They haven't. It's been longer, They've probably had a department dedicated to it since eyetoy for PS2 came out, or @least a research group. & please explain what kinect can do that Move can't? Nothing! kinect is limited, Move is not. PSeye has can track movement & has motion controllers. Buttons are a must. With kinect lack of tangible controller, It will receive more shovelware than the Wii. HURR DURR hit red ball. Move already has FPS's working(Socom 4), Has RPG's working(Sorcery, +has already proven excellent @ archery & sword fighting), Even platformers & puzzlers(LBP2 Confirmed). MS has shown nothing of significance. What? A dance game, Dodgeball, & the pedotrap called Milo. Honestly, I'm just defending sony even though my statements are fact. You're a softcore wannabe gamer if you don't

realize that both are gimmicks to attract more customers & make more $. But @least sony is attempting to appeal to the real gamers & not going family oriented party games like MS.
I honestly do believe they did plan SOME motion tech before the launch of PS3.
The RnD for the motion device for Playstation has been quite vocal.
There are alot of videos showing the PSeye and Eyetoy being used as similar to how Move works now.
