It appears that the online assault between humanity and the Chimera is about to be improved significantly. According to a post on the officialPlayStation Blog by Bryan Intihar, community manager at Insomniac, a patch will be released on Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, to update Resistance 2 to version 1.40. This update will come with a significant amount of adjustments. The first tweak is to multiplayer progression, which will correct a player's stats that haven't accurately recorded experience, kills or attributes that he or she has earned. Along with a few tweaks to some medals, ribbons and Trophies, players will find extra clan support for users, match balancing, and weapons adjustments.

Competitive multiplayer receives a few tweaks as well, such as improved scoreboards, balanced ammo pickups, and loadout disabling during created games. Cooperative play, by contrast, will balance the experience gained by Medics, remove LAARK ammo from ammo pickups, and adjusts Stalker movement. There are also some network message optimizations and localized text updates to round out some of the other elements. Intihar finishes his post by mentioning that Insomniac is also working on an update to save a second player's character progress, and that enabling this feature was restricted by firmware that wasn't available at the time of the game's release.
