Plot: The story begins in 1993 in Somalia when Elliot Salem and Tyson Rios (the protagonists of the game) are still in the U.S. 75th Ranger Regiment. They are tasked to work with Philip Clyde, a private military contractor with the Security and Strategy Corporation (SSC), to carry out an assassination. After this mission, Philip Clyde, on behalf of SSC CEO Ernest Stockwell, invites Lieutenant Colonel Richard Dalton (commander of the 75th Ranger Regiment) to join the company for a desk job. He agrees, asking to bring Salem and Rios with him as contractors, and in the following year, the three enter the private sector. Salem and Rios begin work as mercenaries. Over the course of a decade and a half, they are caught up in a complex scheme to privatize the military, and see to the plot's downfall. At the game's epilogue, we see the two protagonists start their own firm — Trans World Operations, or TWO. It has also been revealed that an Army of Two movie is in the works.

By downloading an optional 'Veteran Pack' from the PSN or Xbox Live networks, 2 new story missions are added to the campaign. The first sees Salem and Rios in Ukraine's capital during a series of riots protesting against the corrupt government that is currently in power. Their mission is to infiltrate and destroy the headquarters of a miltia that supports the corrupt government, located somehere in the city's subway system. After finally reciving an exact location from Murray, they fall through the floor and discover an abandoned cold war medical facility. They take lab reports that prove the illegality of the experiment conducted there, and extract an UNAID observer who went missing some days earlier and has been held captive and tortured. The millitia leader congratulates the two on thier perserverance on getting so far into the base before giving the order to kill them. A massive firefight occours, with Salem and Rios finally winning out and advancing to the control room for the base, where they set and blow explosives. They then make their way out with the UNAID observer with Salem saying "Don't mention anything vaugely medical from now on."

The second is an extended version of the final story mission set in Miami during a hurricane. This new version replaces Phillip Clyde with Robert Dalton as the final boss, and the location is changed to a top-secret SSC vault where the sensitive and comprimising matierial is stored for select clients. In this timeline, Salem and Rios kill Clyde but Dalton escapes with the proof of his involvement in the revealing of troop positions, they wait for the hurricane to pass before they pursue him. He flees to the SSC vault where he locks the information in and waits for them. After advancing through the complex and hacking the 3 biometric locks on the vaults, a confrontation occours between Salem, Rios and Dalton. They eventually kill him and hide his body in a vault and lock it, taking the comprimising evidence with them.

Plot: (Story) At the start of the game, Jack (the player protagonist) is a passenger on a plane that goes down in the Atlantic Ocean in 1960, after ordered society in Rapture has collapsed. After surfacing, Jack finds himself the only survivor of the crash, and swims to a nearby towering lighthouse sitting in the middle of the water, where he finds a bathysphere which he uses to descend into the ocean and enter the city of Rapture. Atlas assists Jack via the service radio found in the bathysphere in making his way to safety, while Ryan, believing Jack to be a government agent, uses Rapture's automated systems and his pheromone-controlled Splicers against him. Atlas tells Jack that the only way he can survive is to use the abilities granted by plasmids, and that he must kill the Little Sisters to extract their ADAM. Overhearing Atlas' words, Dr. Tennenbaum intercepts Jack, and urges him to save the Little Sisters instead, giving him a plasmid that will displace the embedded sea slugs in each Sister.[32] Atlas says his wife and child have been hiding on a submarine and directs Jack towards it. Just as Jack and Atlas reach the bay where it is located, Ryan has it destroyed; an enraged Atlas tells Jack that Ryan must die.

Jack was actually born in Rapture a mere two years ago, genetically modified to mature rapidly. He is Ryan's illegitimate son by an affair with Jasmine Jolene, an entertainer. Ryan further reveals that, after purchasing Jack's embryo, Frank Fontaine designed him to obey orders that are preceded or followed by the specific phrase "Would you kindly." Jack was then sent to the surface when the war started to put him beyond Ryan's reach. When the conflict between Fontaine and Ryan reached a stalemate, Jack was sent instructions to board a flight with a package and to use its contents, a revolver, to hijack and crash the plane near the lighthouse; enabling him to return to Rapture as the cat's-paw of Fontaine. Ryan calmly demonstrates Jack's lack of free will by forcing Jack to kill Ryan using the trigger phrase. With Ryan's death, Jack realizes too late that Atlas has also been using the trigger phrase to control him. Altas reveals himself as Fontaine and takes control of the city, leaving Jack at the mercy of the reactivated security systems. Dr. Tennenbaum and her Little Sisters help Jack escape through the vent system, where he falls and loses consciousness.

When Jack awakes, Dr. Tennenbaum has already deactivated some of his conditioned responses (such as the trigger phrase itself) and assists him in breaking the remaining ones, among them one that would have eventually stopped his heart. With the help of the Little Sisters, Jack is able to track down Fontaine. Fontaine, having been cornered, injects himself with vast amounts of ADAM and becomes an inhuman monster. Jack battles Fontaine, eventually prevailing and allowing the Little Sisters to subdue and extract the ADAM from Fontaine. Three endings are possible depending on how the player interacted with the Little Sisters, all narrated by Dr. Tennenbaum. If the player rescued all the Little Sisters (therefore saving their lives), the ending shows the rescued Little Sisters returning to the surface with Jack and living full lives under his care, including their graduating from college, getting married, and having children; it ends on a heart-warming tone, with an elderly Jack surrounded on his deathbed by all of the adult Little Sisters. If the player harvested (and therefore killed) more than one, but not all, of the Little Sisters, the game ends with Jack turning on the Sisters after defeating Fontaine, presumably killing them all and taking their ADAM. Tennenbaum's voice narrates what occurred, condemning Jack and his actions. Later in the second ending, a ballistic missile submarine carrying a nuclear missile comes across the wreckage of the plane and is suddenly surrounded by bathyspheres containing Splicers. The Splicers kill all hands aboard the submarine and take control of it. If the player harvested all of the Little Sisters, the player is shown the same movie as the second ending, though the tone of Tennenbaum's voice is a more disappointed and angrier one.

Plot: (Gameplay) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a first-person shooter similar to previous games in the Call of Duty series but set in the present-day instead of World War II.

The game's move to modern warfare introduces new weapons and technology to the Call of Duty franchise, including the M4A1 carbine, the M203 grenade launcher, the AN/PEQ-2 Target Pointer for use in conjunction with night vision goggles, the MP5SD submachine gun, and the FGM-148 Javelin portable anti-tank guided missile. The player gains access to these over the course of the game, but may only carry up to two weapons in addition to grenades. Weapons from fallen foes can be picked up to replace weapons in a player's arsenal. Players also have additional abilities, including a grenade launcher attachment, night-vision goggles, and the ability to call in airstrikes.

The gameplay of Call of Duty 4 shares several features with previous iterations of the franchise. Once again, players fight alongside AI-controlled teammates. They help during the game's missions by providing cover fire, shooting down enemies, and clearing rooms for entry.

A character can be positioned in one of three stances: standing, kneeling, or prone; each affecting the character's rate of movement, accuracy, and stealth. Using cover helps the player avoid enemy fire or recover health after taking significant damage, as there are no armor or health powerups. When the character has taken damage, the edges of the screen glow red and the character's heartbeat increases. If the character stays out of fire, the character can recover. When the character is within the blast radius of a live grenade, a marker indicates the direction of the grenade, helping the player to either flee or toss it back to the enemy.

Plot: In the Microsoft Windows, Playstation 3, Wii and Xbox 360 version, the game starts in Makin Island at night on August 17, 1942. Private Miller watches the torture and execution of a fellow soldier by the Japanese. As they turn towards Miller, he is rescued by his crew and they assault the island, replicating the Makin Island raid. The following mission then starts two years later, where the Americans assault the Japanese-held island of Peleliu. Miller calls in rocket strikes to take out Japanese Ha-Gō tanks. At the end of the mission, Sergeant Sullivan is fatally impaled through the stomach by a Japanese soldier wielding a katana. The next mission starts in a swamp area of Peleliu, with Corporal Roebuck (now promoted to Sergeant, after the death of Sullivan), as they travel to the Japanese-held airfield. Miller acquires a flamethrower and bazooka during the mission.

The game then jumps to the Soviet campaign on September 17, 1942, during the Battle of Stalingrad. Dimitri Petrenko wakes up amongst dead bodies of his fellow soldiers, as the Germans shoot them. After they have gone, he meets Sergeant Reznov, who tells Dimitri that he wants to kill General Amsel, the man behind the Soviet casualties. After eliminating some German soldiers, Dimitri follows Reznov through buildings and streets, as they kill Germans on their way, using sniper rifles and machine guns, until Dimitri kills Amsel; at which point, they run and jump into the river. The following mission starts three years later at the Battle of the Seelow Heights, near Berlin, where Dimitri witnesses the torture of a fellow soldier by Germans and as the Germans approach Dimitri, he is saved by Soviet soldiers, including Sergeant Reznov. Together the Soviet troops advance through German lines, as Dimitri aids them with a Panzerschrek, as they reach a German camp.

The game returns back to the Pacific Theater of Peleliu, where the Americans are pushing further inland through the island. Miller and his unit take out enemy mortar crews, so their tanks can go inland. They then disable Japanese guns, facing out to sea by taking out enemy infantry in caves.

A firefight in the streets of BerlinThe following mission campaign returns to the Battle of Seelow Heights. Dimitri is at the controls of a T-34 tank, as he helps the Soviet Army to reach the train station by destroying German tanks. He, along with Reznov and the Soviet troops, board a train to Berlin. Upon arrival they engage German soldiers in buildings and around the streets, as the Germans are retreating. The following day, Dimitri watches a fellow Soviet execute a surrendering German soldier. They then move through buildings and streets clearing out Germans, until they reach the entrance to the Berlin U-Bahn. Dimitri is ordered to kill surrendering Germans there, although they are executed by other Soviet soldiers, if he does not. They head into the U-Bahn and start fighting German resistance around the platforms, until a surge of water engulfs the tunnel.

The Battle of Okinawa is featured in the mission "Black Cats", where the player takes control of Petty Officer Locke, in a PBY Catalina flying boat. He destroys Japanese PT Boats and merchant ships from the aeroplane and then aids a U.S. fleet under attack. They rescue American sailors in the sea, while Locke shoots at Japanese PT boats and Kamikaze planes, until more US aircraft arrive. Miller and his crew make a ground assault on Okinawa after the aircraft mission. They clear out the Japanese from machine gun (MG) bunkers, allowing American tanks to progress. In the following mission they are ambushed while retrieving ammunition before starting their assault on Shuri Castle. Miller kills Japanese crew around mortars and the courtyards. Either Roebuck or Polonsky, depending on the player's actions, is killed by surrendering Japanese soldiers. The surviving Americans fight off a final Japanese attack and take Shuri Castle.

The penultimate mission starts as Reznov drags Dimitri out of the U-Bahn to regroup with Soviet infantry. They clear out buildings along a street to proceed towards the plaza outside the Reichstag, where Dimitri destroys Flak 88s and they take out the remaining German infantry, defending the entrance to the Reichstag. As they enter the Reichstag, they kill German soldiers in corridors, a lobby and the main room. After that, they clear out remaining German infantry on the roof of the building, Dimitri moves up to plant the Soviet flag. Before he can, a wounded soldier shoots Dimitri with a pistol. Reznov kills the German soldier, using his machete. Dimitri then plants the flag to show they have won the war. A final cutscene details the end of the European war, the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the peace accord signed as a result.

Plot: Grand Theft Auto IV follows the story of Niko Bellic, an illegal immigrant and veteran of the Bosnian War. After persuasion from his cousin Roman who immigrated to America years prior to the game's opening, Niko leaves Eastern Europe[21] to come to Liberty City, where he hopes to forget his criminal past and pursue the American Dream. After his arrival, however, Niko quickly learns that Roman's tales of riches and luxury were lies concealing Roman's struggles with debt and gangsters. Niko aids Roman in his troubles while hoping to carve out a new life for himself in the city.

It is later revealed that Niko came to Liberty City primarily to search for the person he blames for the betrayal of his old army unit: Florian Cravic. Niko soon creates ties with the Liberty City Bratva through Roman's loan shark Vladimir Glebov and later makes acquaintance with a major figure of the Bratva, Mikhail Faustin and his associate, Dimitri Rascalov. Niko completes jobs for Faustin before joining Dimitri's plot to betray Faustin and take over the organization. Niko assassinates Faustin on Dimitri's orders and later meets with him to collect his reward for the killing. Dimitri, however, betrays Niko and reveals that he is in collusion with Rodislav Bulgarin, a former employer of Niko who orders his men to kill him. Little Jacob, a Jamaican arms dealer whom Niko befriended earlier, helps Niko survive. Dimitri and Bulgarin escape, however, and Jacob suggests dealing with them later.

Niko receives a phone call from Roman, who is hiding in a remote location after having received several silent calls. The two meet up and they drive back to find both Roman's apartment and taxi depot in flames. The two escape to Bohan, after receiving death threats from Dimitri, and Roman reveals his plans to propose to his girlfriend Mallorie. Niko progressively obtains new allies in the city, including the McReary family (mobsters Gerry and Packie, cop Francis and drug dealer Derrick), Playboy X, Dwayne Forge, Elizabeta Torres, Manny Escuela and more gaining the money to provide for his and Roman's life while furthering his connections towards locating the person he is searching for. Niko eventually locates Florian, but discovers that he has changed his name to Bernie Crane, and ultimately Niko determines that Bernie is not the person responsible for his unit's betrayal leading him towards the only remaining suspect: Darko Brevic.

Towards the conclusion of the storyline, a shadowy government agency (under the name of "U.L. Paper") that had forced Niko to help them in collusion with an aging mobster, Jon Gravelli, locates Darko in Bucharest and arrange to have him brought to Liberty City as a final reward. Niko confronts Darko, who has become a drug-addicted, guilt-ridden wreck. The player is then left with the option of either executing Darko or sparing his life. During this period, Niko also does work for the Italian crime syndicate, led by Jimmy Pegorino, Phil Bell and Ray Boccino. Afterwards, having dealt with his past, Niko relaxes at a bar when mob boss Jimmy Pegorino shows up and asks him one final favour; to obtain a shipment of heroin for him that he can sell to a buyer: Dimitri Rascalov.

Plot: Killzone 2 follows the events of Killzone and Killzone: Liberation, and entirely takes place on the planet Helghan, the home-world of the Helghast, who invaded an Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA) colony. Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA has launched an assault on the enemy's homeworld of Helghan. Tasked with securing the enemy capital of Pyrrhus, the team quickly discovers that the Helghast are a more formidable enemy on their home planet. Not only have they adjusted to Helghan's hostile conditions, they have also harnessed the power of the freakish lightning storms that always occur on Helghan which they can now use against the ISA. A cold, barren, unforgiving world, Helghan provides a ready defense with thick, acidic air, dust clouds, and violent surgical lightning storms. Sev discovers his squad is not just fighting enemy forces – their fiercest opponent may be the planet itself.

Plot:
(Core Gameplay) The Play section of LittleBigPlanet consists of a number of levels that have been created by Media Molecule, and are based around different themes that draw inspiration from real-world locations, such as Japanese gardens, dry deserts, New York City streets and icy Russian stages. By completing the levels available to them (by reaching the scoreboard), the player may then advance the story and play further unlocked levels. The story mode comprises eight themed areas, with each area containing three or four main levels, and some of these levels in turn contain collectable keys to unlock bonus mini-levels. The main story mode comprises more than 50 pre-built levels in total.

A screenshot of LittleBigPlanetTo control their Sackboy character, the player moves by using the analog sticks, jump with varying degrees of height depending on the pressure applied to the action button, and grab onto objects to either move or swing on them. In addition to regular left-and-right movement, and despite the 2D look of the game, levels consist of three levels of depth—the foreground, middle and background—and may be traversed between either automatically by the game itself, or by the player's command. The player can opt to emote their Sackboy by applying varying degrees of delight, fear, sadness, and rage, control each arm independently through the analogue sticks, slap other players by jerking the arm movement with the analogue sticks, and use the Sixaxis motion-sensing functionality to animate the character's head and body.

The player can access the Popit menu at any time.

A large variety of pre-built objects are present in levels which may be interacted with. Those, along with objects that have been constructed out of more basic elements, include materials, which act in a manner physically similar to those they represent. Examples are soft cloth, gripping rubber, and tough wood. Objects that are built with mechanical components, such as motors, pistons, jets, wires and springs also act similarly. Along with these objects, levels contain dangers that the player must avoid, and these include objects or platforms that have been set on fire, whilst explosives that can damage Sackboy if he strays too close can be used to blow up sections of the level. Similarly to being hurt if these level dangers are touched, Sackboy can additionally be crushed if trapped under or between heavy items. Should a player lose a life in this fashion, a checkpoint system ensures that the player may start again at recently passed checkpoints should they fail, albeit a limited number of times.

Each level contains a number of "score bubbles", initially known as "sponge" in early demonstrations of the game, which may be collected in order to increase the player's score to beat their own, and other players', high scores. Users may collect larger bubbles known as "prize bubbles" which contain collectable items. Many of these bubbles are hidden or are in hard-to-reach places, and contain items such as new stickers and decorations, or new materials and objects that may be used in the Create mode for the user's own levels. Some of these hidden items may be accessed by using the aforementioned stickers menu to place stickers on special parts of the level. Special clothing and accessories for the player's Sackboy is obtained by completing the levels without losing a life. In addition to the prize bubbles, collectable keys found in main levels unlock new mini-levels with unique goals, such as skipping a spinning pole or bouncing to grab bubbles, to speed levels such as bobsleigh racing.

Plot: In MGS4, the player assumes the role of Old Snake, utilizing stealth, Close Quarters Combat and traditional combat techniques. The game eschews the overhead camera of earlier Metal Gear games for a full-rotation, third person view. First Person View and Over The Shoulder cameras are also available. CQC has been significantly expanded from MGS3.

A further addition to gameplay mechanics is the Psyche Meter. Psyche is decreased by non-lethal attacks, much like MGS3's stamina, and is influenced by battlefield psychology. Stressors (including temperature extremes, foul smells and being hunted by the enemy) increase Snake's Stress gauge, eventually depleting his Psyche. With low Psyche, aiming becomes more difficult, back pain is more frequent and Snake may pass out upon receiving damage. Among the available methods of restoring Psyche are eating, drinking, smoking and reading a Playboy magazine.

Snake has a few gadgets to aid him in battle. The OctoCamo suit mimics the appearance and texture of any surface, streamlining the camouflage changes necessary for stealth missions. The Solid Eye device highlights items and enemies, and can operate in Night Vision and Binocular mode. It also offers a Baseline Map, which indicates the location of nearby units. The latter function is also performed by the Threat Ring, a visualization of Snake's senses that deforms based on nearby unit proximity.

Metal Gear Mk.II is a robot, assembled by Otacon, offering CODEC functionality and the in-game menu. Moreover, it can be used remotely to stun enemies and provide reconnaissance . Its design, as with Mk.III's, is based on the namesake robot from another game in Kojima's portfolio, Snatcher.

The Virtual Range, similar to the Virtual Reality training of previous titles, functions as a test facility for weapon performance and gameplay controls.

Plot:
(Gameplay) Resistance 2 is a single-player campaign, with the player controlling protagonist Nathan Hale. The game includes many of the weapons from Resistance: Fall of Man, as well as new weapons such as the "Marksman" and a mini gun called the "HVAP(High Velocity Armor Piercing) Wraith". The weapons are a mix of 1950s human technology and more advanced alien technology. Unlike the first game, where the player was able to carry as many weapons as they could get their hands on, Resistance 2 limited the player to two weapons, as well as a more limited number of grenades. Resistance 2 also does not use a health bar in the single player campaign, but instead uses an automatic regenerative health system, whereby players must keep out of the line of fire in order to recover health.
