(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Ok so there are probably LOADS! of threads about this but none i find actually fit my predicament or actually answer my question, so here goes...

I used GeoHots jailbreak on 3.55 and jailbroke my PS3, i know dont know whether to just update normally or not as i have been told by many people that it will brick my PS3...

So far this is all i've done on it. I've installed BlackBox FTP server and i have two modded patches for MW2 and W@W.

I also read that if you're on OFW then it's fine to update, no bricking or anything... am i on OFW 3.55? or did Geohots jailbreak install CFW 3.55? i'm new to this so any help is appreciated. thanks and +rep to anyone who answers Cool Man (aka Tustin)

lol what a mess dude. Let's clear this up.

If you installed Geohot's CFW Jailbreak over 3.55 OFW then obviously you have a CFW installed. :derp:
If do you want to update to 3.56 first reinstall Sony's official 3.55 and then install 3.56.

Don't forget to delete your homebrew apps though!
They won't work after you install it so there's no reason in keeping them, besides, if you're going to install the latest firmware you always wanna keep it safe!

Download 3.55 from You must login or register to view this content. and put the UPDAT.PUP file on a flash drive, inside this folder structure: (root of your flash drive, the first directory that opens, for example \:G if G is the letter that is assigned to your flash drive) \PS3\UPDATE

Then go to network update and choose update via USB Storage

But if i were you i'd probably wait for a new CFW as ganggreen said. IF you really want to keep using homebrew apps and such. Smile

I think you can leave the patch you currently have installed on MW2 (i'm assuming you're referring to MW2), no prob. I believe it'll work. Smile

You just won't be able to change it once you updated to the latest Sony firmware of course.
IF you get sick of the patch then you just need to delete the game's data via "Game Data Utility" and voilá, you'll have your original patch (unmodded) back.

There's no going back though as you may imagine.
Not unless a new CFW comes out and enables you to mod your gamedata again. But it should be fine, i doubt Sony will do anything to anyone hosting CL's and such. About IW i'm not sure...

so if i still want to use the patch i can upgrade to OFW 3.55 then upgrade to OFW 3.56 and the patch will stay i just wont be able to change that patch to a different one, until a new jailbreak/CFW comes out? have i got that right? so i should install patches i want to keep then upgrade? i'm not too fussed about homebrew tbh
