I don't know, I don't think it is true, but to be safe I've disconnected my PS3 from the internet, that way if it is true, they won't be able to contact my PS3 to "kill" it, at least I hope.

So many threads about this Not Happy or Sad ...all asknig the same question too. No, you're fine on 3.55
IF anything happens (which is so unlikely) it's the tards who jumped up to OFW 3.56 from CFW that have to worry.
