With the teaser trailer video coming out recently for Battlefield 3, there is a good amount of buzz surrounding the upcoming shooter. I sat down with executive producer Cod N. Veeus yesterday to discuss what Battlefield 3 is bringing to the table. And what we found out was quite revolutionary.
Take a look at the teaser trailer and then hit the jump to read my interview with Mr. Veeus.
DogsDie: First of all, I want you to know that I played Battlefield 2 on the PC for hundreds of hours. I have all of the expansions and I can not wait to get my hands on BF3!
Cod N. Veeus: I’m glad to hear! We’re sure you’re going to enjoy the latest entry in the Battlefield series.

My first question is what additions have you made in Battlefield 3 that set it apart from Battlefield 2?
Cod: I can answer that in a word: ONE.
D

In one word? What word would that be?
Cod: No no. That is the word. ONE
D

One what?
Cod: You see, that’s the difference between Battlefield 2 and 3. One.
D

Well, I can see that. 3 minus 2 equals 1. But what is different in the game? Not just the title.
Cod: See, you aren’t grasping the revolution that is Battlefield 3. We are literally adding one to everything in the game.
D

I’m not comprehending this Mr. N. Veeus.
Cod: You see, in Battlefield 2 you only have one weapon at a time. In Battlefield 3 we added “one” weapon, so we allow you wield two weapons at once.
D

Ok, so dual wielding. Lots of games allow dual wielding. In fact Call of Du…
Cod: Please, you agreed not to mention that…beast in my presence.
D

Right. Sorry.
Cod: Even so, how many heads did your character have in the game that shalln’t be named? Only one. In Battlefield 3, we are introducing 2 headed soldiers. Imagine the tactical advantages of being able to look in front of you AND behind you at the same time! No more knives in the back. Which reminds me, melee attacks will now be with two knives instead of one.
D

Ok, ok. I get it! So you literally added one to everything in the game?
Cod: Right! There you go! Soldiers now have three arms, 3 legs.
D

Nice! So you can actually triple wield?!?
Cod: No…that would be adding two. We’re saving that for Battlefield 4. But you will always have two lives per spawn. When you die you instantly pop back up for your second life. But due to copyright reasons we call it the segunda vida.
D

Interesting. So what else did you add one to?
Cod: Number of teams per team is now two. The sniper class has two scopes, the medics have three defibulators, you control your character with 2 controller or keyboards, you have to pull the trigger two times to fire, there are two suns in the sky (thank you to George Lucas for allowing us to do this), and every box of the game ships with two copies.
D

I’m absolutely speechless.
Cod: Me “TWO”.
(laughter)
D

Well Mr. Veeus, thank you for your time. We wish you the best of luck this coming fall.
Cod: Thank you Mr. HotCars.
