PlayStation 3: Those who own it love it.
Edge Online is reporting the results of a survey called "Nielsen's State of the Video Gamer", in which surprising results have been handed down. Most notably, the PlayStation 3, which is in third place in worldwide sales, is reported as being used more often by its users than its competitors.

Nielsen ranked the systems in three major categories--percentage of free time used, days used per month, and number of daily sessions. The PS3 ranked number one among the new consoles in the first and third categories, with the Xbox 360 being played the most days. The Wii ranked below them in every category. It should be noted that the survey also included results for the PS2, Xbox, and GameCube, with all three older consoles ranking above Nintendo's newest console in many categories.

The rankings can probably be explained by the various multimedia functions of each system. The PS3's Blu-ray functionality is key, as it doesn't require an internet connection. The Xbox 360 does have a broader suite of downloadable titles as well as streaming capability, but the system is little more than a DVD-playing console to offline players. And no matter how you slice it, the Wii is primarily a game-playing machine. You can check out a PDF of Nielsen's results here.
