(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});Only yesterday they brought PS3 owners news of a PSN Facebook app, and the PS3 is in the news again today. Many PS3 enthusiasts may be very pleased as it seems that ‘cloud’ storage is coming with the 3.60 firmware update. A ‘cloud’ service has long been speculated for the Sony PlayStation 3 and could be a real boon to regular gamers.
The ‘cloud’ in basic terms means that if you are a PS3 console owner you will be able to save your games to a server instead of on your hard drive, according to Luke Plunkett over on Kotaku. The news comes from Sony speaking today with developers to tell them that the cloud feature was coming. Saving your games to the Sony server frees up room on your hard drive and not only that but it means you can access your gaming data for any game from wherever you happen to be as the cloud facility is linked to your PlayStation Network account.
Of course if your PS3 dies on you it also means that your data is still safe. So what’s the snag? Well, you have to be a PlayStation Plus subscriber to use this extra service, which has been dubbed “Online Saving,” and also developers can opt out for certain games so it’s not exactly a ‘cover all’ situation. The forthcoming date for the 3.60 firmware update is not yet known. Sony, you think you are making things better? Well, think twice! They made 3.56 to stop us from backing up games, and just now they make this "cloud" facility, we could be renting games and backing them up! /facepalm
Awesome post, to bad I bought an Xbox and either way I'm not a PlayStation Plus subscriber. Look's great though .
I know, it looks good, but it doesn't matter if you are or you are not a Playstation Plus subscriber because you can just use a USB stick to do what the "cloud" allows you to.

Humm, I find this still a little green.
What I can't understand is, can we save the whole game to this cloud facility and the access the game from there without actually needing the disk?
What the point in that!? Surely that would lead to piracy, unless they bring out the serial games or same as we have now with the online pass.

It looks like you can. And i think you are totally right, this may lead to piracy. If it is what we think, then people would be renting and borrowing games, when they get it, they will just copy it to the "cloud" facility and keep the game. But even if that happens, a small amount of people would be getting it because it is only available for Playstation Plus subscribers, unless people buy it just to get the cloud facility.
