i was updating to 3.56 and i had a power cut at 72% of the installation, and now im stuck in a loop, i will turn it on and it goes straight to the update installation and gets to 72% then i get a failed update error, and i switch off and on and it starts again, i cannot access the boot menu it will beep and act as if it is but still goes to the update,

is there anything i can do?

what did you use to update the ps3 internet or usb?

you could try to Cut of Power Again , or Pul out Hdd while hes Updating

then you should be able to reset it i had that to while updating to 3.55 =D

if that not work get an extra Hdd and put that one in Run update again .
after the updates completes put in the original Hdd and do that update again

cost a little but you Ps3 runs again

Would recovery mode work?

put the update 3.56 onto a usb pen drive/flash drive must be FAT32 format

donwload 3.56 You must login or register to view this content.

once downloaded go into your pen drive
my computer ----> pen drive
and make a folder called PS3 in capital letters
then go into the PS3 folder and make another folder called UPDATE
in the UPDATE folder put the 3.56 update that you just downloaded from the ps3 website in there. n.ow what you want to do with your ps3 is

1. have your pen drive plugged into the ps3
2. have your ps3 turned on GREEN LIGHT
3. hold your finger on the power button untill it goes off RED LIGHT
4. now remove your finger
5. put your finger on the power button again and hold it there it should go off again
6. do steps 4 & 5 again you should hear 2-3 beeps if done correctly you should be in recovery mode

recovery mode not an option for me, as it will do all the right beeps but will still just update
