(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Sony has violated many National and International Laws so if we want to protect the hackers and our rights we must take legal action.

Sony has violated the GPL numerous times, yet they've never been held accountable.

They Violated the Norwegian Marketing Control Act by removing OtherOS
"Terms of service that grant the manufacturer full access to literally downgrade the product or limit the functionality are unreasonable and in clear violation of the Marketing Control Act" says Thomas Nortvedt.

They have also Violoated the European Directive

A quote from the article here says
"More specifically, the directive clearly forbids for personal information to be sent without unambiguous consent. Moreover, any personal data must be collected for specified, explicit and legitimate purposes and cannot be processed in a way that is incompatible with those purposes. The information collected must not be excessive in relation to the purposes for which they are collected. When personal information is gathered in conformity with these provisions, appropriate technical measures need to be taken to protect the personal data, in particular where it involves the transmission of data over a network. Generally speaking this means that any personal information must be transmitted in an encrypted form.

Even if Sony had complied with these provisions, which they clearly don’t, personal data of their consumers in the European Union cannot just be sent to any server of their choice. In fact, personal data that is collected in the European Union can only be transmitted across European borders with a few exceptions. One of these exceptions is to the United States, but only if the hosting provider has agreed to the Safe Harbour principles. Reports indicate that the personal data is sent to the Japan and the United states, and it seems unlikely that a Safe Harbour agreement is applicable to these machines. In any case, even had the collection and unsecure transmission not violated the directive, the personal data is not allowed to be sent to Japan."

With this information it seems clear that Sony is violating many laws, and with that last one, most of Europe can sue Sony for violating their rights which could cause a lot of bad publicity and even bankrupt them. Threatening them with lawsuits for these is a great way to get them to leave the hackers alone, as they have their own problems to deal with :carling:

I copied a few quotes and gave the sources, I'm in school and don't feel like getting in trouble for not working in class... this is something no one else posted or found yet, so it may be helpful to the scene and PS3 gamers in general

Lol @ lawyers comment, on topic, I'll support them, and for the people who don't support geohot cuz they don't like him, they don't realize that if he loses the lawsuit none of us can use CFW, plus Sony can steal from us, with CFW we can get back what they've stolen

That thing in Europe can deal lots of damage, it's an international law, so Sony's fked if that works, not to mention LG got the Injunction in Europe
