Consoles, we own them. What makes a console different from us owning a computer? After all, the PS3 is advertised to be like, or used as a computer. We legally have the rights to change our computer the way we like. Why not the PS3? We paid our hard earned money for it, we deserve to be owning it, and not “renting” it from Sony.

Today I am talking to you about console exploitation. I won’t get in-depth because of legal reasons, but I’ll try to reach out to you all the message I am trying to send.

When you download a update, don’t you know that there is something sending from the servers to tell you there is a update? Possibly which update to install? When you buy a game, map, theme, or whatever, the PS3 gives you a link to download it off the web to your PS3. The dlc(s) are downloaded to the PS3 by package files (file.pkg).

Package files are exactly what the name is, package-files. Inside each PKG, it contains game data, files, codes, etc.. You could unpack these, edit the game (or patch), and repack it.

PS3 Firmware, oh goody J. The PS3 firmware has lately been getting so secure that, it is nearly impossible to hack like a beginner PS3 hacker such as myself. We are also kinda to the good part, so just hang on in there. Should I do a exploitation on PC game hacking? I’m more better at the PC hacking than console hacking.

When a decrypted firmware is shown, it should have a file called “UPL.xml.pkg”. This file contains code to tell the PS3 what files should be expected for installation, so the PS3 won’t attempt to install any other files, and if so, I believe it gives you a error. What did geohot do with this file? George Hotz, my idol, he edited that file, and erased all the code of the packages needed to be installed. He even added something like “I used to be ballin, but now im bill gatin” - Lil Wayne Lyric. That file needs to be edit if your planning on doing any CFW.

Version.txt, just a simple text file that displays the version. IE: 3.56, change that text to “vuno mad cfw” and it will show. Basically, you can simply edit that to show your own version of the firmware. Does that make sense?

CORE_OS_PACKGE.pkg, w00t! I haven’t spent much time on this file, but I’ll tell you what I know about it. This file contains .self files once decrypted. After all, it is a PKG. The lv2_kernel.self is located in this file. Basically, it is a package file containing the operating system of the PS3 files. Makes sense?

Guys, the knowledge is out there. The tools are out there. It took me half a day just to obtain all this newb knowledge, and this isn’t even all I just know about the PS3. This isn’t nothing what I have stored in my brain about the PS3. Just use Google because after all, Google is your friend. J.

Some abbs.:

CFW = Custom firmware.
OFW = Official firmware.
PKG = Package Files
JB = Jailbreak.

Don't flame. Most people already know this information, but I can guarantee, in the long run, one of these people who actually read this will be a good hacker. Just watch. Do I plan to advance this tutorial? Maybe, but maybe for PC hacking. Maybe for coding. Who knows Smile.
