(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Okay so here is some Information I would like to share with you about the Ps3's method of Secure flash memory and how it works. Most can benifit from this by knowing more about their machine and how the internal flash memory is use. This is mostly for beginners as I didn't really go in Depth :p

Some Facts:

-Shock Resistant
-Efficient/low power Use
-Small size
-Non-Volitility
-Supports XIP (Excecute In Place)

During a System Update:

Either with a USB component or Internet during the download the Ps3 validates that the Update PUP is valid and the corresponding keys are valid and useable, otherwise Rejected. The Ps3's Hypervisor maps out the area to where the Update must be downloaded (Which is the HDD) From there the system does quick checks on the firmware and the Hypervisor maps the Firmware to flash to the NOR and than it Re-flashes the old data from the NOR chip and flashes it with the new update.

Writing can be Dangerous:

Writing to the NOR chip can be very dangerous especially with the PS3. If the system has somthing important deleted or reflashed than the Ps3 might not function properly and could brick :O ! The contents on the NOR is very unique and shouldn't be tampered with or you risk a brick :( So be very careful when writing to NOR, unless you don't care :p

RSOD!

Okay so this one is very popular. This basically happens when the PS3 is flashed with somthing that the PS3 won't work properly with or somthing has been deleted/reflashed that is essential to the PS3. Updating in "Service Mode" causes RSOD because the Hardware of the PS3 reacts differently when in Service Mode and that the NOR wasn't meant to be flashed in Service Mode and might not do proper Signiture Checks.

Any Questions? Quote me Smile I'll be glad to answer Dancing
