yes you can play non blue-ray movies on your ps3.
Heres what the ps3 can play : Blue-Ray,Compact Disc,Dolby Digital Plus,Dolby HD,DTS-HD Audio Master and more.

Yes you can play DVD rom and XBOX games even show up under as a DVD rom lol it's true
