Yea the media player is the best. You just:
1.Enable media sharing on your computer
2. Go to PS3 video and press search for media servers.
3. Than you can easily stream videos you have saved on your computer

VLC media player er??? windows media player?

I want to do it for a JB PS3 thats in my room, so is that impossible if i can't get on PSN?

Got it working (ps3 media server) had to force ip filter thing to match PS ip, and change dns os PS3 to 9.9.9.9/random,
