The PlayStation 3 has passed an important milestone: The PS3 has sold over 50 million units worldwide. The Move motion-control system has surpassed 8 million units sold since it was released in September, according to the company.
"Due to the demand for the PlayStation Move motion controller, we've been struggling to keep units in stock in our U.S. GameStop stores," said Bob McKenzie, senior vice president of merchandising for GameStop said in a statement. "With big franchise titles set for release throughout the year for the PlayStation Move, we expect the remainder of 2011 to be a period of continued sales growth for PlayStation Move."
Currently, on the big board of console sales at Wikipedia, the PlayStation 3 is tied for the ninth best-selling console of all time with the 360.
I predict, when the smoke clears, and the PlayStation 3 is pulled from production and sales way in the future, it will end up as the seventh best selling console ever, selling a total of 70 million units.
