I put up an ad on craigslist for anyone willing to swap their PS3 for mine and I have found people willing to do the trade. So, I have 2 questions:
1. The one I'm interested in is a phat PS3 that already has 3.55 CFW on it. Is there any benefit to owning a phat vs a slim, or is the slim a better model for me to hold out for, and hope that there is a downgrade from 3.60 back to 3.55 CFW coming out some day, or even a 3.60 CFW (unlikely anytime soon... at least not to the general public.)
2. Can I simply take the HDD that is in my slim and put it on the phat PS3 WITHOUT having to reformat and lose nearly 70 games I have installed on it? If not, what is the best way backing up the nearly 1TB of information on the internal slim model, so I can transfer the data back over once I format the drive and install it over to the slim?
Thanks for any feedback or suggestions.

1. No real difference, just that a slim would be newer if you care about that. Everyone knows that phats look legit

It all depends how bad you want it. If you are desperate then trade but if you feel like you could wait for a possibility then just wait.
2. No you would't be able to do that because it would force you to format the HDD. You could just buy a 1tb+ external hard drive and back it up, but I'm unsure of whether that will also backup the firmware or not. I do remember someone saying that they did something similar but the ps3 wouldn't boot up until the proper firmware was installed. BUT I wouldn't trust me on that one.
