(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});Please Note: This is not the way Sony says you should clean your ps3, This is a more fully detailing of PS3. You can see Sony's way posted in xLew- thread with other useful knowledge in PS3 upkeep. Which is linked below. You must login or register to view this content.
Remember: It would just be foolish too do this full detail if your still under warranty. Stick with the vacuum method till your warranty's up or sticker is all ready void but make sure to do it id say every couple off weeks because this method never fully gets it all out or even at least the majority off it out. Nothing is worth voiding warranty unless your doing some 1337 hard mod our something, Therefore don't open it.
How often? I usually do mine twice a year. Once in June just for a dust removal/case cleaning, Then i do it again at the end of the year doing a dust removal/case cleaning.
1st- Open ps3:Tools needed will consist of.
1 small socket wrench
1/4 in socket
T-10 Star tip point- that fits 1/4in socket
Philips screw driver
Text Tutorial:
Remove the Warranty Sticker
Behind the Warranty Sticker you’ll find a star tip screw. So set up your socket wrench with the star tip point and unscrew the screw.
Remove the Screw and Remove the Plastic PS3 Top Plate
Now you’re looking at the console you’ll have to remove (7) Screws, Notice (6) of them will be long and 1 will be shorter than the others
Remove all the screws, once that’s finished start at the back of the console and pop the unit open with your hands.
Now you should have the console open and you’ll seen the disc drive and power supply
Video Tutorial:Not my video, close friend.
2nd- Dust Removal: Items: All you need is to go to a computer store or get what i use which works absolutely awesome Metropolitan Vacuum® Cordless Rechargable Desktop Vacuum/Blower for $25 well worth especially if your a serious gamer and will always have a console in your household then its a good investment for you to extend the life in your console(s). You would start off by using thr blower attachment and blow everywhere you see dust then after you've blown it out hook up the vacuum attachment and suck up where it got wedged in corners and what not. I also rigged up a hose attachment which cost like a buck to make but makes this thing absolutely perfect for the ps3, i could make a video over the weekend if you guys would like? Could also just get a can of air duster and go to a local computer store and see if they carry anything in stock that's basically the same concept or at least a vacuum, just a small hand held one don't need excessive suction power its only dust.
3rd- Blue Ray Laser Cleaning:Only attempt this if The laser is starting to act up on you and make sure your in a clean environment with no air movement, dust floating around. The BR lasers are easy to damage.
Sorry for obnoxious song mute the song, he was sick and didn't wanna talk, and was feeling ignorant i guess lol. Next BR cleaning i do im going to do a video with chat walk through.
4th- Case Cleaning:The best thing I have found to polish/remove minor scratches is a really really soft microfiber cloth and Mequires tech wax car polish or mothers car wax polish. Apply the polish back and forth in a straight motion. Go easy on the play station logo. It don't take much it takes me about 2 pee sized blobs to do the top cover and that's all i do and im telling you this method has my launch ps3 still shining and scratch free like it is brand new.
Hope this helps some of you do something a little more productive with PSN being down its a win win situation you'll be good to game for countless hours when PSN is back up with your system fully cleaned and ready to tear it up, or help you get top dollar when trading it in for a 360 at game stop LMAO F U SONY!, Thanks!
Ive done quite a few re flows and come out successful every time. To start off use 99% isopropyl and cotton swabs and get the GPU and CPU chips immaculately clean. Then i move in close with the heat gun for 3 minutes then back off a bit for another 3 minutes on each chip. Then put a even flow of Arctic Silver 5 on each id say about the same thickness of a piece of cardboard. Never had any call back complaints ive done 2 personal ps3s and 1 lasted a little over a year and the other like 10 months.
