Post: Question about PSN bans

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); This may be a stupid question because truthfully I dont know how Sony restricts access to PSN from consoles, I know its some "signature" to the system almost like an IP, So I have two questions...

1. What bans the console from PSN? MAC Address? or some engraved ID?

2. Is it something that can be "Spoofed", (i.e SMAC, Spoofs computers MAC addresses.)

Dont flame if im making a fool of myself, just been reading up on people who have been banned from PSN and was trying to conclude if theres a method around the ban.

Your ps3 mac address gets banned, nothing you can do about it.

Are you completly sure? a MAC address on a PC can be masked by tweaking a setting on the router.. Theres got to be a way to do it with a Ps3.

What If you went through the router settings? My router has these options.

1.) Use Router MAC address
2.) Use internal system address
3.) Use custom MAC address

And everything connected to the router should use the MAC address you set. (also the way you refresh a dynamic IP)

I was banned trust me, NO way around it. I've been banned for a month before :dumb:

If you spoof your MAC address, Sony will just ban your ps3 entirely. And no, it can't be done. If you can fake your mac address under linux, it's useless, because you can't play ps3 games or even log in to PSN under ps3 linux.

Since Sony knows all MAC addresses of all ps3's already, using a fake would tip them off immediately. It would either be a non-ps3 address, or somebody else's address on a machine where you don't have an account. That's a EULA violation and would get your ps3 banned. They take that kind of thing much more seriously than game behavior.
